Psychosocial risks

Psychosocial risks: from the risk plan to daily work.

Workload, management style, respect and communication shape mental health at work. Your health and safety team assesses the risks. Much of the action plan depends on how managers work, and that is where qlture comes in.

Quick answer

What is psychosocial risk management?

Psychosocial risk management means identifying and controlling work factors such as excessive demands, low support, harassment and poor communication. In Brazil, the NR-1 standard has required it in occupational risk management since May 26, 2026. qlture works on the part of prevention that depends on people: how managers hand out work, push for results and respond to a complaint.

What Brazilian inspectors look at

  1. 01

Running a survey doesn’t settle it.

Brazil’s Ministry of Labor states that standardized questionnaires are not mandatory and, on their own, are not enough evidence. Inspectors look at how assessment, measures and implementation fit together.

  2. 02

The action plan stays on paper.

The assessment points to overload, low support or poor communication. Changing that depends on how leaders set priorities and share the workload.

  3. 03

    Participation has to show.

The Ministry cites consultations, listening sessions, risk communication and training as ways to evidence worker participation.

  4. 04

    The grace period is over.

In Brazil, inspections had a 90-day guidance period after May 26, 2026. Since then, inspectors can issue infraction notices.

Mission examples

Situations we might write for this topic. In your program, they come from your own policies.

Leadership · 5:20 pm

One more rush job.

Friday afternoon, a request lands for Monday, and your team has worked overtime all week. Do you drop it in the chat for whoever is online or renegotiate the deadline before assigning it?

Mission 01

Operations · 11:40 am

She seems different.

A usually talkative colleague has gone quiet, makes more mistakes and skips meetings. Do you mention it to the group or invite her to a private chat and share the support channels?

Mission 02

Meeting · 9:15 am

A public scolding.

A manager yells at an analyst in front of everyone over a small mistake. You are that manager’s peer. Do you ignore it or talk to them later about how they give feedback?

Mission 03

The part of prevention qlture takes on

01

We start from your action plan

We read the risk inventory and action plan with health and safety and HR, and choose the measures that depend on behavior.

02

Leaders who prevent

Managers rehearse, inside the game, the conversations they tend to get wrong: pushing for results, giving feedback, the request that lands the day before a holiday.

03

Respect and communication

Campaigns on harassment, conflict and support channels, connected to your harassment prevention program.

04

Worker participation

Quick listening sessions by team and short missions, with participation tracked by department.

05

Organized records

Reports with dates, audiences and participation that your safety team can add to its evidence.

What we track

  • Participation by department
  • Leader engagement
  • Choices in management dilemmas
  • Listening sessions held
  • Most sensitive topics by team
  • Progress per cycle

Regulatory basis (Brazil)

Brazil’s NR-1, chapter 1.5 (Ordinance 1,419/2024) ↗
Occupational risk management must include work-related psychosocial risk factors.
Ordinance 765/2025 ↗
Postponed the start of the new chapter 1.5. It came into force on May 26, 2026.
Ministry of Labor Q&A on chapter 1.5 ↗
Risk management is a continuous process. A questionnaire alone is not enough. There is no official mandatory tool.

Frequently asked questions

01What are psychosocial hazards at work?

They are aspects of how work is organized, managed and lived, such as excessive demands, low autonomy, lack of support, harassment and poor communication, that can harm mental and physical health.

02What does Brazil’s NR-1 require?

Since May 26, 2026, Brazil’s NR-1 requires psychosocial risk factors to be part of occupational risk management. According to the Ministry of Labor, it is a continuous process with worker participation. A one-off questionnaire does not meet it.

03Does qlture carry out the psychosocial risk assessment?

No. The assessment is a technical responsibility of the company, usually its health and safety team. qlture works on the prevention measures that depend on behavior and produces participation records.

04Does this apply outside Brazil?

Other countries and standards address psychosocial risks too, such as ISO 45003 or Mexico’s NOM-035. The legal references here are Brazilian; the program adapts to the framework your company follows.

05Which preventive measures work for psychosocial risks?

It depends on what your assessment shows. Measures often involve work organization, leader preparation, clear communication, support channels and harassment prevention. qlture works on the part that depends on behavior; the rest of the plan stays with the company and its safety team.
